Polish Lilli Palmer's first film was French, but she did not make another film on the continent until after the war - fleeing from the rising Nazi threat of her home to England in the 1930's and making her stage debut there, in 1933, around the same time that she broke into films.
Palmer's first husband was Rex Harrison (1943-1957) and it was she who he divorced in order to marry Kay Kendall - promising Palmer he'd come back to her afterwards.
Palmer's autobiography Change Lobsters And Dance was published in 1975 and she also wrote several fictional novels (including Face Value, The Red Raven, Night Music and A Time To Embrace), all originally in German and translated to English by Palmer herself.
