Lilongwe's development as the new national capital began in 1968.
Its area of 9,000 square miles (23,310 square km) is bordered by the Chimaliro Hills and Viphya Mountains on the north, the Great Rift Valley on the east, the Dwangwa River on the west, and the Kirk and Dzalanyama ranges on the south.
Situated in an area with a cool, healthy climate and a perennial supply of mountain water, the town is near the Mozambique border, on the traditional route between Ntcheu and Lilongwe, and is the trade centre for a fertile agricultural area (rice and potatoes).

Lilongwe is the capital of Malawi with a lively trade in almost anything you can imagine but what struck me most was that you don't see elderly people anywhere.
It seems to be that I was the oldest male walking around in downtown Lilongwe.
Besides the lively market their is not much of interest in the city.
