List of Soviet and Russian submarine classes - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Submarines in the Soviet Navy were developed by numbered "projects," which sometimes but not always were given names.
The NATO reporting names were based on the British (and later American) habit of naming submarines with a letter of the alphabet indicating the class, followed by a serial number of that class.
Most Russian (and Soviet) submarines had no "personal" name, but were only known by a number, prefixed by letters identifying the boat's type at a higher level than her class.

Entitled "Mutual Confidence in the Americas," the draft resolution is designed to strengthen peace and security in the Hemisphere by having countries make public their plans for purchasing arms.
Under the provisions of the draft proposal, arms sales covered by the U.N. Register would also be subject to a new legal framework in which Organization member countries would provide advance notification of "major arms acquisitions." If enacted, the proposal would establish a standard for arms transfer monitoring unparalleled in the world.
The significant difference between current U.N. measures and the one proposed in Lima is that the new resolution identifies the purchaser and the weapons system before a deal takes place.
