The Gondal Sampradaya, which considers Kathiawad its territory, is agitating against the decision of the Limbdi Sampradaya, which is based in Surendrangar district, to set up a centre in Rajkot.
While leaders of the Gondal Sampradaya allege that the Limbdi Sampradaya's foray into its area is aimed at creating divisions among the Jains, the latter denies any such motive and says it only wants to set up a centre for old and sick monks.
But Limbdi Sampradaya head Dolarbhai Kothari said they would go ahead with their plan, adding that they only wanted to set up a centre for old and sick monks and that there was nothing wrong in it.

 CENTENARY CELEBRATION OF SWAMI VIVEKANANDA'S VISIT TO GUJARAT
During the second phase of the celebration from 10th to 17th Feb.1994, three 8 feet bronze statues of Swami Vivekanandaji were unveiled by Shrimat Swami Attriasthananandaji Maharaj at Rajkot, Baroda and Limbdi on 11th, 12th and 13th Feb. respectively.
The most important event of the Ramakrishna Ashrama's activities during this period is the inauguration of a new centre of Shri Ramakrishna Mission at Limbdi in Feb.1994.
Nearly 6000 people of Limbdi and the adjoining villages joined in a 3km long procession from the Royal Darbar Hall to the opening of the Ashrama building in thc new site of the Ramakrishna Mission, at the 6-acre complex.

LIMBDI, Dec 8: Gorabhai Hirabhai Makwana, 37, tried to take his life on December 2 by consuming pesticide in the Nana Harijan Vaas of this town in Surendranagar district.
Makwana was saved by timely treatment in Limbdi and Ahmedabad.
But Gallabhai Maganbhai, 45, who was similarly unemployed and threw himself in front of a train on December 4 couldn't be saved.

Original sacred texts were only available to monks but Lonka as a scribe gained access and was shocked at the difference between the discipline demanded in the texts and the lack of discipline of the powerful monks.

 In Limbdi, you can buy a piece of history
While many havelis — built between 1891 and 1901 by officers and courtiers of the erstwhile state of Limbdi — have been demolished to make way for modern housing, some crumbled during the 2001 quake.
Most of the havelis were built using solid teak imported from Burma that was shipped till Bhavnagar ports and brought on rail to Limbdi.
Incidentally, the oldest building in Limbdi built in 1841 has survived the vagaries of nature and is in excellent condition.

RAJKOT: Volunteers of the Delhi-based Bhai Daya Singh Sevak Jatha Charitable Foundation have been working overtime to construct an operation theatre and two wards at the Limbdi general hospital which was completely damaged in the quake.
The Limbdi hospital building was 65 years old and the foundation stone was laid by Nawab of Palanpur Telemohammedkhanji on January 27, 1929.
