	Lime Kilns - Notes to Gazetteer
		In SAC 114, J.H.Farrant states that from 1768 chalk from Beachy Head was being taken to limekilns in Hastings and in 1794 the amount burnt was 120,000 bushels needing 750 faggots of coal.
		Only Limekiln Wood is shown on the 25" OS map of 1874, but the 1:25000 OS map of 1959 also shows "Limekiln Forest and Limekiln Farm" It is presumed that all three are associated with eachother.
		A circular limekiln is shown at the edge of "Limekiln Field" on the 1808 map desxribes as "A correct plan of Nye Timber, Mawkins Farm, and the mill and on the common and situate in the parish of Chiltington......" the property of Charles Goring.

		Limekiln Hollow Pit isn’t a pit at all!
		I decided it wasn’t worth squeezing down into it and getting my feet wet, so I crawled back toward the awkward squeeze and continued the other way, bellying for about 10 feet before reaching a tight spot, where I squeezed my body over a rock in the floor.

		I took the Limekiln Trail up from Lexington, then came back down the Priest Rock trail for a total of 5.1 miles and about a 1200' elevation gain.

	The Smith Limekiln and Limestone House
		During the 1870's and 1880's, the limestone industry flourished in Jefferson County and numerous kilns and quarries were located near here.
		The limekiln which survives on this site was built in 1874 by Woral C. Smith who had settled in the county the previous year.
