The Limfjord (in Danish: Limfjorden) is a shallow sound in Denmark that separates the island of Vendsyssel-Thy from the rest of Jutland Peninsula.
Limfjorden was first connected with the North sea on February 3, 1825 when a flood pierced an opening, the so-called Agger Canal, in the north of a 13 km long and less than 1 km wide isthmus, the Agger Tange.
Limfjorden should not be confused with the Lim bay on the western coast of Istria, Croatia, between Vrsar and Rovinj.

In Limfjorden suspended and sinking material showed different composition of amino acids during both spring and summer.
The east, slightly higher in elevation, is an area of fertile loam plains and rolling hills; the coast is indented by a series of fiords that penetrate deep into the interior.
The Limfjorden, the most northerly, extends 180 km east-west across the breadth of the peninsula from the Kattegat to join the North Sea via the Thyborøn Canal.
Denmark’s main islands fall within the eastern region; they have some of the country’s most fertile soils.

The flow of the water round the area causes deep channels surrounded by great sand banks, which makes it ideal for fishing, especially fishing for mackerel, garfish, herring, flounder and if you are lucky also sea trout.
The area is ideal for fishing from small boats because you can go sailing under almost all weather conditions, as you can choose to go sailing in Limfjorden, Kattegat or in the shallow waters in the mouth of Limfjorden into Kattegat.
The area has several wonderful beaches at the coasts of Kattegat and Limfjorden, and it's possible to sail out to the beaches at the small islands in the mouth of Limfjorden into Kattegat, where it's possible to stay undisturbed.
Sunset by Limfjorden - part II - SnowScan - a photoblog by Peter Hestbæk
As you may know the dynamic range of a camera cannot cope with the highlights of the sky and the shadows of the ground in front, so in order to make this I combined two exposures of the same photo and inserted the underexposed sky in overexposed ground/trees.

This study is dealing with energetics, especially respiration and growth, of the common scyphozoan jellyfish, Aurelia aurita, and selected hydromedusae that may occur in large numbers in Limfjorden, Denmark, during spring and summer.
Laboratory growth experiments have been carried out with jellyfish of different size offered different kinds of prey organisms in different concentrations.
The relationship between specific respiration rate and specific growth rate has been used to estimate the cost of growth, and together with experimental filtration rate data, this information is used to complement the field work in Limfjorden.
IngentaConnect Late-Holocene salinity changes in Limfjorden, Denmark(Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-30)
Sub-fossil remains of macrofauna extracted from a 5.3 m sediment core in the central part of Limfjorden indicate marked changes in salinity.
Sub-fossils in the lower part of the core indicate marine conditions similar to those of the present North Sea, while the upper 2 m of the core represents periods of brackish conditions alternating with periods of intermediate salinity similar to the present condition, indicative of alternating opening and closure of the fjord to the west.
