  Inquiry
Inquiry is something that arises in the midst of your experience – as part of your experience, not separate from it.
This is different from inquiry in natural science, where the object of inquiry is outside you and all that is needed is to not interfere with it.
Inquiry is a means of inviting our true nature — which has much greater intelligence and awareness than our conscious mind will ever have — to reveal itself and guide us to a deeper understanding of reality and our own truth.

 CLEMSON UNIVERSITY
A Committee of Inquiry is responsible for determining whether the facts in the case are contentious (sufficient uncertainty exists to prevent a determination of innocence without extensive investigation), or that there is a probability that the position of the accused is or is not credible.
The answer is that the Committee of Inquiry should limit its efforts to the minimum needed to establish that the facts in the case are contentious, or that there is a probability that the accused's position is or is not credible.
At all times, however, the Committee of Inquiry should seek to confine the extent of knowledge about the charges leveled, and consequently should cease its Inquiry as soon as it can conclude that the charges may or may not be grounded (not that the charges are or are not true).

Guardian | Bill to limit inquiry costs
The present rules for statutory inquiries into matters of public concern leave questions which impact on costs, such as who should have legal representation, up to the chairman, but the taxpayer picks up the tab.
The inquiries bill will impose a duty on inquiry chairmen to "have a regard to the need to avoid any unnecessary cost" when making any decision as to the procedure or conduct of an inquiry.
Inquiry chairmen will be able to compel people to give evidence on penalty of six months' imprisonment, rising to 51 weeks when legislation doubling magistrates' sentencing powers comes into force.

In the ADA decision, the Supreme Court held that in determining whether an individual is limited in the major life activity of performing manual tasks, a court must examine his or her ability to perform tasks that are central to everyday life, and may not limit the inquiry to tasks performed at a particular job.
The Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit reversed the District Court’s ruling and held that Williams was substantially limited in the major life activity of performing manual tasks, in view of her inability to perform many of the duties required by her job at Toyota.
The Supreme Court held that the proper inquiry was whether Williams was able to perform “the variety of tasks central to most people’s daily lives.” The Court went on to observe that the specific manual tasks associated with any particular job are not necessarily important to people’s daily lives.

In 1987 it allowed states to opt for 65-mph limits on rural interstates and, in the mid 1990s, eased restrictions further.

C.S. Peirce's Pragmatism [Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy]
Pragmatism is a principle of inquiry and account of meaning first proposed by C.S. Peirce in the 1870’s.
In the 1870’s, Peirce’s pragmatic maxim is a part of his account of inquiry, suggesting and clarifying concepts worthy of exploration.
Inquiry was now firmly realized as a part of logic (broadly conceived as semiotic), and more importantly, as one of the normative sciences in Peirce’s architectonic classification.

A parliamentary inquiry should be held into the abortion laws following evidence that they no longer enjoy majority public support, an MP said yesterday.
Caroline Flint, the public health minister, told MPs before the start of the summer recess that the Government had "no plans" to change the 24-week limit because the British Medical Association and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists were not calling for the law to be amended.
In his letter to Phil Willis, the chairman of the Commons science committee, and Lord Broers, chairman of its opposite number in the Lords, Dr Harris said the Telegraph poll suggested that there was "a lack of public confidence" in the scientific basis for the 24-week law.

true   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
He predicted that if human inquiry (truth-seeking) adopted the scientific method, then it would, at some point converge and reach a limit; there would be basically no questions left to be answered, and the resulting systems of beliefs would be both true and even complete.
Truth, since it is knowable, is whatever the perfect science would tell us in the ideal limit of inquiry.
Nonetheless there would seem to be some facts there; scientists might even know enough to be able to describe what might be going on; the point, though, is that they can't confirm that it is going on, even if they can describe, in generalities, what might be going on.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Aristotle
After more than two centuries of almost universally unquestioned triumph, Aristotle once more was made the subject of dispute in the Christian schools of the Renaissance Period, the reason being that the Humanists, like the Arabians, emphasized those elements in Aristotle's teaching that were irreconcilable with Christian doctrine.
With the advent of Descartes, and the shifting of the centre of philosophical inquiry from the external world to the internal, from nature to mind, Aristoteleanism, as an actual system, began to be more and more identified with traditional scholasticism, and was not studied apart from scholasticism except for its historic interest.
It is customary to distinguish, on the authority of Gellius, two classes of Aristotelean writings: the exoteric, which were intended for the general Public, and the acroatic, which were intended merely for the limited circle of those who were well versed in the phraseology and modes of thought of the School.

I call for this inquiry because I (and many, many others) are convinced that the official story of Sept 11th (pre-event, event, and post-event) is at best a half-truth, or worse, an orchestrated lie designed to cover up what may ostensibly be U.S. complicity in Sept 11th.
This inquiry should be local, and not virtual, in the sense that it should bring together a fairly representative subsection of the Hamilton community - both those already activists and academics and non-activists and citizens.
My hope is that a legitimately documented presentation would follow the public inquiry, and that the inquiry would involve people from all walks of life, working together democratically to synthesis, analyze, verify, and articulate the group's findings.

At the White House, spokesman Joe Lockhart accused the GOP leadership of using the impeachment issue "to embarrass the president" and produce political gain for Republicans at the polls this fall.
Leaders are likely to redraft a plan offered in the Judiciary Committee on Monday that would have limited the scope of the inquiry to the Lewinsky affair, and called for it to be concluded by Nov. 25.
Against that backdrop, some junior Republicans spoke privately about the prospects for a last-minute compromise on the impeachment inquiry with Democrats, although any type of agreement seemed unlikely before the roll is called on Thursday.

The decision makes clear that employers deciding if an employee has a disability covered by the ADA should not limit their inquiry to whether the employee can do his or her job with or without a reasonable accommodation for his or her disability.
Rather, the decision requires employers to ask whether the employee's "disability" substantially limits, on a permanent or long-term basis, his or her ability to perform one or more "major life activities" such as walking, bathing, seeing, hearing, and performing manual tasks.
If, however, the employee's impairment does substantially limit his or her ability to engage in one or more major life activities, then employers must consider whether the employee can perform the essential functions of their job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

The Truth to Inquiry Conditional: If "S is P" is true, then, if inquiry relevant to whether S is P were pursued as far as it could fruitfully go, it would be agreed that S is P. Peirce's view of bivalence seems to have been the same.
This seems to be in tension with Peirce's injunction against blocking the "way of inquiry" (1.135, c.1898)[7]; after all, one way to block the way of inquiry is to assert, with regard to a given question, that inquiry would never result in consensus regarding the answer to that question.
