In Istria the family Linaceae consists of two genera: Linum and Radiola.
Radiola with its only species Radiola linoides is a small (1-10 cm) plant, which grows in fields or on wet and sandy soil, flowering with very small white flowers from June to July.
Nearly 200 species of rather slender biennial, annual or perennial herbs and sub-scrubs of the family Linaceae, all but one of the cult, species today is grown only for ornament.

Linaceae in our area have flowers of 5 separate petals (which often fall away early), 5 nearly separate sepals, and five stamens, which alternate with the petals and join at the base to create a low collar.
The pistil has 5 divisions length-wise, each of which produces 2 flattened seeds.
On Montara Mountain, members of Linaceae include the Western Blue Flax (Linum perrene) and the Narrow Leaf Flax (Linum bienne).
