  Lincoln Chafee - Congresspedia
Lincoln Davenport Chafee was a Republican senator from Rhode Island from 1999 to 2007.
In May 2005, Chafee's senatorial re-election bid was endorsed by the traditionally Democratic-supporting NARAL Pro-Choice America, in spite of the fact that the strongest possible challenger to Chafee, anti-abortion Rep. James Langevin, had declined to run for senator.
Chafee, known for often disagreeing with the Republican party leadership, did not cast his ballot for President George W. Bush in the 2004 election, despite having endorsed him in 2000 before he had even become the Republican nominee.

I was pleased, Charlie, that Lincoln Chafee, Senator from Rhode Island, a Republican -- even though he didn't say he would vote for it he did not rule out the possibility that censure would be the right answer at some point in time.
They don't really care what kind of problems Chafee is going to have running in a progressive blue state, nobody is allowed that far off the reservation no matter how urgent their need to distance themselves from Fearless Leader.
Lincoln Chafee knows it -- he's in the fight of his life for his Rhode Island Senate seat, and is notably the only Republican who said Feingold has raised good points and he wouldn't rule out voting for the measure.

 The Washington Note
As Chafee said during the July 27th hearing with Bolton, the Senator stated that despite Bolton's assurances that he believed in a viable, two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine standoff, Chafee argued that the distance between the administration's actions and rhetoric was great and that the administration had precious little credibility in this policy arena.
Chafee clearly knows the Middle East mess well -- and this view is not gratuitously offered but is just obvious from watching the tape of his encounter with Bolton -- but he's got people arming him with quality material to make his case.
Senator Lincoln Chafee gets this week's 'Conservative with a Conscience' Award for his principled stand on the importance of America's Middle East diplomacy and for making the Bolton confirmation process an appropriate vehicle to express his concerns.

Republican Sen. Lincoln Chafee, who was defeated in this week's election, said he would block Bolton's nomination.
Chafee, a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, told reporters that he did not believe Bolton's nomination would move forward without his support.
Chafee was never an ideologue and he may have hated "carrying water" for Bush's Halliburton Republicans even more than Rush Limbaugh did.
