The agricultural interest of the county have increased at least 25 per cent, in the last five years, while the population is estimated now at fully 25,000.
The Amite County Historical and Genealogical Society was recently formed on July 23, 2004 to collect and preserve materials of historical and genealogical significance, educate and promote interest in the heritage of Amite County, Mississippi.
