With a current enrollment of 12,000 students, Lindenwood confers 13% of all the college degrees in the state of Missouri and is the fastest-growing college or university in Missouri.
Lindenwood University was founded in 1827 by George and Mary Easton Sibley.
Lindenwood was in the news briefly in February of 2005 for its president's refusal of a National Park Service grant that would have provided $200,000 for the repair of a historic building (the Daniel Boone Home) owned by the university.

After being obtained by Lindenwood University it was disassembled in the spring of 1988 by Randell Andrae, two full time paid staff members of the then Historic Daniel Boone Home, Inc., and 2 volunteers, Bob Pecoraro and Barney Combs.
The University's goal is to create a living-history village that that reflects the time of the Louisiana Purchase and early statehood, which came for Missouri in 1821, a year after Boone died.
