For those who have managed to arrive in the centre of Huddersfield, Lindley is only minutes away.
Nestled in amongst these areas is what I consider to be examples of some of the finest architecture, enchanting dwellings and intriguing features of years gone by in Huddersfield.
The roundabout (pictured) at the junction of New Hey Road, Reinwood Road and Acre Street is what I classify as the south, and most commonly used, gateway to Lindley.

 London Notes
Lindley is the name of a village north-west of Huddersfield, Yorkshire.
The death Certificate for "William Lindley Shirt, annuitant, aged 69 years", dated 13 December 1874, is not conclusively that of William Shirt, husband of Dorcas Cufflin, but, in view of the very unusual middle name, later bestowed on William and Dorcas' grandson, it seems likely to be the correct one.
Lindley Dawn Cufflin's death certificate cannot be found in the indexes at St Catherine's House under all possible variants and mis-spellings in a number of the quarterly index volumes following his date of death, 6 February 1914.

icHuddersfield - `Beasts, clocks and trams'
1822 Birchencliffe is described as being `in the township of Lindley, and parish of Huddersfield; 2 miles from Huddersfield, 6 miles from Halifax'.
In the early nineteenth century the Manchester turnpike road was constructed and this encouraged people to settle in the area, as well as bringing trade (many passers-by stopping off at the area's numerous inns and public houses — there were apparently eight or nine in Lindley and Birchencliffe alone).
Perhaps with all these attractions it is no wonder the large black cat, which has since become known as `the Beast of Birchencliffe', was keen to visit the place last year; or maybe the `beast' was just a keen gardener as it was spotted near Armitage's Garden Centre in Birchencliffe.
