 Academy Theatre, Lindsay, Ontario, Canada
In the spring of 1892, two citizens of the town, R.J. Matchett, agents of the Grand Trunk Railroad, and Fred Knowlton, town clerk, had plans and estimates preparedfor a new theatre in Lindsay to be called "The Academy of Music".
With the backing of a few spirited citizens known as the "Push and Pluck", a joint stock company was formed, and by July 1892 work had started at the southeast corner at Lindsay Street and Kent Street East to the design of the architect, W. Blackwell of Peterborough.
The Lindsay Canadian Post of 30 December 1892 gives an ample and effusive description of the new theatre; the following rhetoric is but a a sample.

Through direction from the Hockey Hall Of Fame the history of the stick was traced through the Lindsay Public Archives to verify the stick was carved between 1852 - 1856 by Alexander Rutherford Sr.
A person on the deck said "What the heck is that?", and I said with eyes wide open "it's a hockey stick!." Melville chuckled and handed me the stick and said I could have it.

"Hodgson has said repeatedly that the Lindsay superjail would be operated in the same way as the Penetanguishene facility," said Larry Cripps, president of Local 309 of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (Lindsay Jail).
The Police Association of Ontario has come out strongly against privately-run correctional facilities.
