Line of Demarcation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Line of Demarcation was an imaginary longitude, moved slightly from the line drawn by Pope Alexander VI to divide new lands claimed by Portugal from those of Spain.
This line was drawn in 1493 after Christopher Columbus returned from his maiden voyage to the Americas.
Although the line was created to settle territorial disputes between the sole powers at that time, it did not take into account the rise of other powers such as France, nor the Protestant nations of Britain or the Netherlands, who ignored the papal demarcation and staked their own claims.

The Military Demarcation Line is the border between North and South Korea.
The Military Demarcation Line was established as the ceasefire line at the end of Korean War hostilities in 1953.
In Korean, the line is called the Hyujeonseon, or "ceasefire line." However, in colloquial usage, the dividing line is more often called the Sampalseon (삼팔선, "38th parallel"), a name likely coined at the end of World War II, when it would have been an accurate description of the North-South border.
