Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge is a giant bridge to be built linking Hong Kong, in the east, with the gambling mecca Macau and the neighbouring city of Zhuhai, the western Pearl River Delta, part of mainland China's southern industrial powerhouse.
With a portion of the structure becoming an undersea tunnel to allow for large container vessels, the concept is similar to that of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel in Virginia, United States.
Authorities from three sides have proposed that a detailed study be conducted on the impact the project might have on the habitats of rare tree frogs, horseshoe crabs and Chinese white dolphins.

NEW PEARL DELTA BRIDGE PLAN Hong Kong and Macau authorities have held informal talks on the building of a bridge across the Pearl River Delta, which would link Hong Kong with Macau and Zhuhai City.
Detailed proposals already exist for the Lingdingyang bridge, which would extend from Zhuhai to Tuen Mun in Hong Kong via the islands of Qi’ao Dao and Neilingding Dao using a roadway formed from cable-stayed and suspension bridges.
While the Lantau to Macau and Zhuhai Bridge would have obvious benefits for Macau, its Lantau Island landing point would create additional traffic in the region of the new airport, but this could feed directly into the planned new container terminals of the Lantau Port.

This paper informs Members of the Feasibility Study for Additional Cross-border Links, Stage one of which is shortly to commence.
To broadly assess the implications on Hong Kong of the Lingdingyang Bridge and the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Western Corridor proposed by the Zhuhai and Shenzhen authorities respectively, a study known as the Crosslinks Study was undertaken by the Planning Department with the aid of specialist consultants.
A technical group under the Infrastructure Co-ordinating Committee Roads and Bridges Panel comprising personnel from Beijing, Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Hong Kong has been set up to hold technical discussions and exchange information relating to the further studies and investigations on the cross-border road projects.
