Despite the show's checkered run, versions of Lingo were subsequently produced in the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Quebec, France, Sweden, and, most notably, the Netherlands.
Later in the show's run, the prize was $500 for a vertical or horizontal Lingo, $1000 for a diagonal Lingo, and $2000 for a Double Lingo (two lines completed with the same ball).
Critics have derided the show's paltry prizes, the sometimes anticlimactic bonus round, the questionable judging (in one episode "zesty" was not accepted as a word), and the introduction of Stacey Hayes as co-host in the third season.

Lingo in the Palace follows rules very similar to the version of the show on GSN.
The team always begins with 10 of the 25 numbers covered; a team always has the possibility of scoring a Lingo (five covered balls in a row) on their first turn; as 3 balls in a line are always covered.
The bonus game is considerably tougher than the main game; as 6 letter words are now used.

On May 5, a personal friend of mine restored my enjoyment of the game show "Lingo." I had given up on the show entirely; there was nothing in it anymore.
"Lingo" is not a terribly hard game to grasp: players guess a five-letter word, and are told which letters are in the word, and which letters are in the proper position in the mystery word.
Lingo just might be GSN's highest rated program, but it's far from the best game.

Despite its failure, however, the show went on to enjoy widespread popularity elsewhere, w/versions seen in such countries as Spain, Canada (Quebec), and most notably The Netherlands, thus prompting Game Show Network to revive it for American TV in the summer of 2002.
