In the Star Trek television series, linguacode is a universal language code that is sometimes used by the United Federation of Planets in first contact situations.
Linguacode was used in an attempt to contact the V'Ger probe in Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
Linguacode was also mentioned as an option to contact the "Tin Man" in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode of the same name.

A guy named The God-Thing, the resident TrekBBS expert on TMP, says "the Linguacode mentioned in ST:TMP and 'Tin Man' (TNG) was actually inspired by LINCOS ('Lingua Cosmica') developed by Dutch mathematician Dr. Hans Freudenthal and popularized in his 1960 monograph of the same name.
Born in Kyoto, Japan on July 9, 2128, she was the second child in a family of three.
After leaving Starfleet in her mid-thirties Sato created the Linguacode translation matrix, which is still in use aboard Federation starships today.

The primary software of which is called Linguacode.
After scanning brain wave frequencies and activity, it forms multi-layered vocabulary matrices involving grammatical patterns, syntax and even cultural factors before compiling and transmitting the data to the second subject's brain for interpretation.
As part of the Translator circuitry, Linguacode would normally be used in situations whereby an alien language is initially encountered, particularly in first contact situations, but it's necessary via Starfleet protocols that adequate sampling of the unknown language be made first, and be fully analysed.

Spock tells Kirk that the intruder has been trying to communicate but has been doing so at a frequency and rate of speed that made it undetectable to the Enterprises monitors.

On further thought, if we're willing to wait long enough, it could be a sort of interstellar game we could play, even if we can't physically get there in a reasonable amount of time.
Send the first 10 Mersenne primes to an alien civilization, including enough (hahaha) information for them to deduce our language, or a special LinguaCode specifically designed to be easy for alien civilizations to understand (why make them deal with declensions and conjugations if they don't have to?

Hoshi retired from Starfleet in her late thirties with rank of Lieutenant Commander.
She went on to develop the Linguacode translation matrix which remained in use aboard Federation Starships until at least the 2260s.
Hoshi eventually moved to the Tarsus IV colony.
