Properly speaking, this article should be called Lin-chi or Linji; however, the sect should probably be at a page titled "Rinzai Buddhism" or Rinzai (Sect), to provide the most clarity.

For one thing, for the record, "Rinzai" (not Renzai) is the name of the Japanese Buddhist denomination, and "Linji" (not Lenji) is the name of both the Chinese lineage and the Chinese teacher.

Your use of {linji} is metaphorical - doesn't work for boundary (sorry > to ruin your rhyme) - {linji} is 1-dimensional, continuous set of points.
"Linji" would be better "korbu", if you take it as "beyond the bounds of probability"; or you can take it as "off the end of the scale of probability".
As you say, it's a metaphor, and NB it was LE linji, not LO linji, so no solecism there, I hope.

 The Textual History of the Linji lu
Linji Yixuan (?-866) is regarded as the leading representative of Chan and Zen Buddhism during the Chinese Tang dynasty (618-906).
Linji's name became associated with the leading branch of Chan during the Song dynasty (960-1268), when members of the Linji faction headed influential state-supported monasteries and authored works commissioned by imperial edict.
The special regard accorded Linji and his teachings at this time is directly connected to the prestige won by members of the Linji faction at the Song court, and reflects their attempt to gain legitimacy and sanction for their interpretation of Chan.

Does anyone have a citation for Hsing Yun's claim to be the 48th Patriarch of Linji (i.e., Chinese Rinzai)?
This would imply that the Linji lineage has had a unified leadership, but I've never heard this anywhere else.

Linji gave very little discourse that could be comprehended outside of realization.
Because Japan was open to the West these teachings also headed west and the Linji School became known as the Sudden Enlightenment School in English.
However, Linji is just the name of the crazy wisdom Chan master who's teaching style became the most prodominate at a time when the human potential for the teachings were ripe.

The purpose of the current presentation is to examine the evolution of teachings attributed to Linji, starting with fragments appearing in (1) the Zutang ji, (2) the Zongjing lu, and (3) Jingde Chuandeng lu, and (4) the Tiansheng Guangdeng lu.
The presentation will focus on the fragments of Linji's teaching appearing in documents (1), (2), and (3), comparing the fragments to each other, and to how they are rendered in the standard, final form of Linji's teachings in documents (4) and (5).
I am particularly interested in examining the discrepancies, with an eye toward the extent to which factional considerations may have played a role, as documents (1), (2), and (3) were compiled by non-Linji faction members.
