Lisbon is located in the wider region known as Lisboa e Vale do Tejo, with a population of 3 500 000, constituting about a third of the population of Portugal.
Lisbon reached its peak of prosperity during the period of the Portuguese Empire in the 16th century.
Lisbon was the centre of a republican coup October 4-5,1910 and the Carnation Revolution of April 25, 1974, which overthrew Antonio Salazar's successor Marcelo Caetano, the last prime-minister of the Portuguese Corporative Regime: the Estado Novo.

The Lisbon Lions is the nickname given to the Glasgow Celtic team that won the European Cup at the Estádio Nacional in Lisbon, Portugal on May 25, 1967, defeating Inter Milan 2-1.
All the members of this team were born within 30 miles (48 km) of Glasgow, Scotland, making Celtic the only club in European football history to have won the European Cup with a team comprised entirely of home-grown talent.
Note: Sporting Clube de Portugal, of Lisbon, are informally known within Portugal as "The Lions of Lisbon" due to their club mascot.

Is the club finally paying respect in the hope that the Lions can make a few quid or are they just trying to fill an empty schedule stricken with yet another balance -sheet unfriendly Winter shutdown.
It seems to me that the timing is more focused on combating lack of revenue from the SPL shutdown and keeping punters diverted from main issues than filling the stadium to maximum effect in the name of The Lisbon Lions.

While this is undoubtedly true, the reason was because he had such agility rather than that he had to scramble around his line to protect his goal.
You had to dig nuggets out from him about his career because he hated it to seem as if he was crowing but this was one incident he would talk about.
Not much fazed Ronnie, but I remember he was so excited when, just after Lisbon, he turned out for Scotland in the 3-2 win over England at Wembley to become, at 36, the country’s oldest international debutant.
