The president of the Porto metro is claiming that the delays in approving the doubling of the Maia-Trofa line is costing millions of euros, sufficient to have even funded the construction of the Boavista line.
The metro company on the other hand claim that delays in approval for line duplication of the route is the reason why serious work has yet to start and that services should still commence in early 2004.
Other visible signs of metro work are also very evident outside the entrance to Trinidade station and at Senhora da Hora where the sidings to the north of the station most recently used for stabling engineers trains have been lifted and some of the semaphores have also sadly disappeared.

In the mid Nineties a set of measures were taken to improve mobility in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, not only at infrastructure level, but also in every mode of transport.
For the Park+Ride measure, it was necessary to provide a safe, secure and inexpensive place to park, especially on the outskirts of the city where the frequency of public transport is not so great.
The fact that the Universal Exhibition took place in Lisbon was also responsible for some of these improvements.
