Lisgar Collegiate Institute is an Ottawa-Carleton District School Board secondary school in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
In 1871 the school was raised to a high school and in 1873 to a collegiate institute becoming Ottawa Collegiate Institute.
Lisgar has one of the strongest mathematic programs in the country, with students always placing in the Pascal, Cayley, and Fermat, math competitions.

Lisgar Collegiate students have the support and resources for an elaborate show largely because of its long-standing and active alumni association, the Lisgar Alumni Association, which recently put $45,000 towards painting and fixing-up the school’s entire 131 year-old auditorium.

Two students from Lisgar Collegiate Institute brought home bragging rights from the first annual Mayor’s Cup golf tournament on Sept. 18, despite the fact that the school has never had a golf team before.
Though several teams managed to advance to the quarter or semi finals in their divisions, the athletic highlight for Lisgar last year came from the track and field team, where student Thomas McLoughlin-Coleman claimed gold and set a new Ontario record in the midget boys’ 100m hurdles.
Like other sports at Lisgar, the team’s funding comes from a combination of school-issued funds and team fees paid by the students, which Ruff said are “nominal.” Transportation is the biggest expenditure for most teams, a particular challenge for the golf team because it is necessary to travel to driving ranges to practise.

 Ivars Peterson's MathTrek -Math Trails in Ottawa
For several years, math teacher Ron Lancaster of Hamilton, Ontario, has been creating "math trails" for both students and teachers as a way to demonstrate that mathematics can be found anywhere and everywhere, whether in puzzles and games, magic tricks, scientific investigations, newspapers, architectural structures, cityscapes, or even art galleries.
For the May conference of the Ontario Association for Mathematics Education, he worked with Mary Bourassa of Lisgar Collegiate Institute in Ottawa and her students to produce a detailed itinerary with a variety of math-related activities for a visit to the National Gallery.
The first stop was a set of four, brightly painted pillars standing in a plaza in front of the main entrance to the gallery.
