Lisianski Island (Hawaiian: Papa‘āpoho) is one of the Hawaiian Islands, with an area of 1.5 km² (381 acres).
Lisianski was the commanding officer of the sloop-of-war Neva, an exploratory ship which ran aground on the island in 1805.
The Lisianski Peninsula is located on the west coast of Baranof Island in the Alaska Panhandle.

When Lisiansky left Sitka, Alaska he sailed around the world back to Russia and was the first Russian to circumnavigate the globe; thus, Lisiansky was given the honor of being knighted with the order of St.Vladimir and was showered with gifts from the Russian imperial family.
Nevertheless, the spelling, "Lisianski" and not "Lisiansky" was officially adopted by the United States Geographic Board, October 1, 1924.
Captain Lisiansky ordered his men to remove the cargo, the cannons and most of the crewmembers from the ship, so that it would rise enough to be freed from the shallow waters.

 Lisianski Island
The spelling Lisianski (not Lisiansky) was officially adopted by the United States Geographic Board, October 1, 1924.
It reached Lisianski June 16, and found the party well housed in four thatched-roof shacks, but with only a little rice and dried tern meat left, and consequently not at all unwilling to leave.
This vessel later was wrecked on Pearl and Hermes Reef, part of the crew being found on Lisianski in September, 1904, together with part of the crew of the Tanzi Maru.

Lisianski has the highest observance of monk seals being entangled in derelict fish and cargo net.
A quick survey of Lisianski's beaches proved that nets were present, scattered here and there weighted down with bleached white coral heads and sand.

Though the island is small, the reef area to the southeast, called Neva Shoals, is huge, covering 979 square kilometers(241,916 acres), an area nearly the size of O`ahu.
Rabbits were introduced later, and along with mice, they devastated the island's ecology and are believed to have caused the demise of the Laysan rail.
The reefs of Lisianski and surrounding Neva Shoals are called "coral gardens" by some scientists because of their abundance of coral and the variety of growth forms assumed by their colonies, including structures resembling spires, castles, and a variety of other shapes.

In 1967, 95 curlews were banded on Laysan and Lisianski islands (Clapp and Wirtz 1975, Ely and Clapp 1973).
Island, and that aluminum bands can be difficult to detect, it is likely that several other curlews banded in 1967 were alive between 1988 and 1990.
At a minimum age of 22 yr and 2 mo, it was the oldest known scolopacid in North America (see Miller and McNeil 1988).

Department staff flew Hoonah Sound this morning on the way to Lisianski Inlet where spawn was reportedly seen by someone at some time.
Hoonah Sound has not changed from yesterday with no large numbers of sea lions in any one place other than they continue to be scattered in small groups around the south side of Moser Island (total of 23).
There were 35 sea lions scattered in smaller groups from the north of Lisianski Strait to Pelican in Lisianski Inlet.

This small, 6 inch-long rail was first seen in 1828 by Russian sailors on Laysan when they reported the same or a similar species on Lisianski.
They also had been reported as feeding on the eggs of other small birds such as petrels and terns.
