Lisnaskea (Lios na Scéithe in Irish) is a large village and the second largest settlement in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, and is the former seat of the ancient Maguire Kings.
Four days later it was discovered that the bodies of the two female victims had been misidentified by the coroner's office, resulting a family burying the wrong body.
Lisnaskea is classified as an intermediate settlement by the NI Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) (ie with population between 2,250 and 4,500 people).

Lisnaskea Poor Law Union was formally declared on the 27th June 1840 and covered an area of 153 square miles.
The new Lisnaskea Union workhouse was erected on a six-acre site to the south of Lisnaskea at the west side of the Newtownbutler Road.
Eventually, twenty Lisnaskea girls crossed to Plymouth and set sail, each provided with a "trousseau" of six shifts, two flannel petticoats, six pairs of stockings, two pairs of shoes, two gowns, and a bible.

Lisnaskea was once the Seat of the Clan, where Kings were crowned and ruled the County.

Apparently!"shots taken in the vicinity of my front door" those of you reading from afar should realise there is only one front door(to recently renovated flats) on a street that is otherwise completely commerical buildings, not derelict houses but mostly ware houses.
Despite it's misgivings Lisnaskea is a lovely, quaint little town nestled in the heart of fermanaghs beautiful lakelands.
Lisnaskea may not be a top tourist destination but the surrounding lakes and countryside; the raw natural beauty of fermanagh is something i miss dearly.

In 1471 Eamonn, son of Thomas, became the king at Lisnaskea but was so unpopular that Eamonn’s son, Giolla Patrick, is slain at the Maguire Royal church at Aghalurcher in 1484.
The church and its sponsors the Maguires of Lisnaskea were diminished at this point and John of Enniskillen and the descendants of Hugh the Hospitable take the mantle of King of Fermanagh in the newer castle in the growing town of Enniskillen.
One James McCaffrey of Lisnaskea was the leader of the Feinians in Manorhamliton.

WELB Librarian, Willie Scott, pictured with Emmett Clarkin, RSPB Officer, and pupils from St Ronan's PS and the Moat PS, Lisnaskea, who participated in World Wetlands Day and presented a book to Lisnaskea Library on the birds that use the wetlands of Lisnaskea.
With the assistance of St Ronan’s Primary School and Moat Primary School, Lisnaskea, the RSPB created a beautiful willow sculpture of a lapwing, and the children also participated in reciting poetry and reading stories that centre around the birds that use wetlands.
In order to give the community an opportunity to enjoy the children’s work, an exhibition of their poems, stories and pictures will be running in Lisnaskea Library from Wednesday, 9 February, onwards.
