For example, in May 2002, Argentine resident individuals were subject to a tax of 0.5% on their net wealth exceeding a threshold of ARP $102,300, and a tax rate of 0.75% for amounts of net wealth exceeding ARP $200,000.
If a shareholder of a domestic company resides in a tax haven jurisdiction, the wealth tax regime assumes that the shareholder is an Argentine resident individual and imposes a 1.5% tax on the Argentine company, applied without regard to the threshold amounts.

With the economy stalled, largely because a freeze on many bank deposits and transactions has inhibited consumer spending since early December, the list of profitable Argentine companies is extremely limited.
