The airport is capable of accommodating the enormous Airbus A380, although there are no plans for the airport to be served by this aircraft by any airline.

With the ICAO codes, all australian airports begin with Y. The second letter of Australian ports identifies the major ATC centre for the airport, so any airport under Sydney ATC is YSxx, anything under Perth ATC control is YPxx etc. The last two letters reflect the actual name of the airport.
Airports that do not come under the direct ATC authority of one of the major centres use a three letter local descriptor.

The problem at Orange is that the topography is such that the airport isn't particularly representative of the climate in the town area, something quite rare for an Australian town (partly because most town areas are flatter, partly because Orange airport is a long way out of town).
The Orange observing site has been at the airport since 1969, so from the climate point of view a move back to the town area (either the centre or a 'parkland' site) would be a major discontinuity - although Orange isn't used for much climate work because of the proximity of the excellent Bathurst Ag.

Anyway, you find that the errors of representativeness associated with surface temperature observations are very large, so these are generally not used when generating model analyses, as the information they provide is usually inferior to the model guess itself.
That is the timing of Australian surface temp obs has none or at most negligible impact on the models - this is because these data are not used, or if they are they are given a very small weight, recognizing their large errors of representativeness.
