Belarusian banks saw their net assets grow by 0.8% in January-February 2005, totalling BYR 7.559 trillion, says a statistical report of the National Bank of Belarus.
Belarusian banks’ loan portfolio, excluding factoring, leasing and promissory notes operations, increased 1.4% in January 2005 to the equivalent of 9.227 trillion Belarusian rubles as of February 1, 2005.
Belarusian individuals hold around 69.5% in the bank, while foreign investors have a stake of 30.5% in the bank.

Interfax reports the Belarusian Economics Ministry has worked out a list of products, categorised as critical imports and highly-liquid goods, the sales of which allow involvement of only one mediator.

Four Russian energy companies have been included in a list compiled by the "Financial Times" of the 500 largest global corporations, "Vremya novostei" reported on 13 May. Yukos, with a total capitalization of $18.7 billion, was the highest-ranking Russian company in 227th place.
The newspaper noted that the appearance of the Russian companies on the prestigious list can be attributed to the relative reduction in capitalization of leading transnationals because of the downturn in the global economy and the relatively rapid growth of the Russian energy companies.
Sukhanov, who previously served as a company vice president, is the target of a criminal investigation that was launched on 7 May (see "RFE/RL Newsline," 10 May 2002) into allegations of abuse of office, fraud and embezzlement.
