	Regiments of the British Army: Overview
		Snapshots of the British Army, in the form of rolls of regiments at various periods in the Army's history, serve to illustrate the evolving continuity and heritage of the regimental system that has been described as both the envy and puzzlement of the rest of the world.
		Most the regiments raised for King William's war were disbanded by 1698, and when he died in 1702 he was beginning to rebuild the army to meet the French challenge in the War of the Spanish Succession.
		Two regiments commanded by colonels Howard were distinguished as the Buff Howards and the Green Howards from the colour of their facings, and the units eventually came to be officially known as The Buffs and The Green Howards.

	Regiment
		This list represents the Irish cavalry regiments (or those with Irish connections) of the British army for the period 1881-1900 although it is possible that with some of these the Irish connection was more historic than real.
		In 1881 the infantry regiments were restructured, most of the single battalion regiments numbered above 25 were paired up to become two battalion regiments, most of the Irish regiments also had three militia regiments affiliated as the 3rd 4th and 5th battalions (the exception to this were the two rifle regiments).
		This regiment was originally raised in New York and Philadelphia (1755) as the 62nd Royal American Regiment of Foot, it was renumbered 60th in 1757 (the regiment was in the West Indies during the American war of Independence).

		In the Regular Army the lace and badges would be gold and gilt respectively, whilst the Militia and 'Volunteers were to wear silver lace and silver badges.
		With the formation of County Regiments in 1881, certain of the Militia and Volunteer Battalion badges were introduced into the new Regular County Regiments in order to give the former numbered Regiments of Foot some 'Territorial' tradition and gradually white metal badges appeared in the Regular Battalions.

	ARMY MEDICAL CORPS
