The British Army was involved in some comparatively obscure theatres of the war such as the symbolic contribution of the South Wales Borderers in support of Japanese forces in the capture of the German port of Tsingtao in China in 1914.
The British Army was heavily engaged in the Mediterranean, Middle East and Mesopotamia throughout the war, mainly against the Ottoman Empire.
By the mid-1930s, mechanisation in the British Army was gaining momentum and on 4 April 1939, with the mechanisation process nearing completion, the Royal Armoured Corps was formed to administer the cavalry regiments and Royal Tank Regiment (with the exception of the Household Cavalry).

Most the regiments raised for King William's war were disbanded by 1698, and when he died in 1702 he was beginning to rebuild the army to meet the French challenge in the War of the Spanish Succession.
Two regiments commanded by colonels Howard were distinguished as the Buff Howards and the Green Howards from the colour of their facings, and the units eventually came to be officially known as The Buffs and The Green Howards.

Although British recruits are not confronted by mistreatment that compares with the phenomenon of dedovshchina, the Army has struggled to eliminate incidents of bullying from the ranks, which have tarnished the image of the British Army.
In an internal Army survey in 2003, for example, 43% of a sample of 2,000 soldiers responded that bullying was a problem and 5% claimed to be victims of it 1.
British experience suggests that recruits in professional armies can be as vulnerable to mistreatment as those in conscript militaries.

A secondary reason for the lack of royal in its title is said to stem from its participation in the English Civil War against the monarchy (although this is rather blurred by the fact that the Royal Navy also sided with Parliament and does have the prefix).

Who served with the 2nd Battalion Royal Norfolk Regiment in India from January 1943 until September 1947 and later with the 1st Battalion Royal Norfolk Regiments (B.A.O.R.) until his death from a traffic accident at Iserlohn in Germany on the 4 August 1949.
I believe he was attached to the Green Howards at Hutton Gate Army Camp at the end of the war.
On 19.03.1937 was posted to North Staffordshire Regiment for training, he then enlisted with the regular Army, Leicestershire Regiment on 09.03.1938 and posted to the 2nd Battalion on 29.04.1938 he was then posted overseas to Palestine on 15.09.1938.
