Most Canadian legislation originates in the cabinet of Canada, which is a body appointed by the Prime Minister largely from the ranks of his party's MPs.

In common practice, Queen Elizabeth II is referred to simply as "The Queen" or "The Queen of Canada" when in Canada, or when abroad and acting on the advice of her Canadian ministers (such as when she was present at the Canadian 60th anniversary of D-Day ceremony in France, in 2004).
Today, virtually all of the Queen's Canadian duties are performed by her representatives in Canada, the Governor General and the Lieutenant Governors of the provinces.
The Queen's postition and role in the military is reflected by Canadian naval vessels bearing the prefix Her Majesty's Canadian Ship (H.M.C.S), and all members of the armed forces must swear allegiance to the Queen and her heirs and successors.

The function, duties, responsibilities, and powers of the Prime Minister of Canada were established at the time the country was created as an independent nation in 1867 and were modeled upon those of the existing office of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
As well, the Prime Minister appoints the person to head the Office of the Ethics Counsellor whose job is to monitor and when necessary, to investigate, the ethical conduct of the members of Parliament including the Prime Minister to whom the Ethics Counsellor reports.

Currently the Ministers are dealing with public communications raising such issues as: protection of the right to organize a union, the enforcement of health and safety legislation, the treatment of migrant workers, and the prevention of discrimination in employment on the basis of sex (pregnancy) and race.
The Ministers also reviewed progress on the appointment of rosters of experts who could serve on Evaluation Committees of Experts (ECEs), special three-member panels which may be established under the NAALC to conduct independent analyses of the state of the administration of specific areas of labor law in all three countries.
The Council of Ministers agreed to instruct their officials to exchange lists of proposed roster members by October 30, 1998 and conclude the appointment of individuals to the rosters by December 31, 1998.

The NY subways are full of posters smarmily admonishing us to take off our backpacks, move all the way into the car, not put our stuff on the seat next to us, not to run on the platform, and not to lean against the doors, but they haven't tackled the "male crotch spread" problem yet.
