The Victoria Cross (the original version) was awarded to the US Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington, Virginia.......conversely, the US Congressional Medal of Honor was awarded to the British Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the UK.....the new Canadian Victoria Cross (motto enscribed is in latin...PRO VALORE) has never been awarded to date.
Before 1993 the Victoria Cross was a "British" honour and now that we have brought it home it is a Canadian honour that is given out to Canadian troops by the Canadian Monarch, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II - Queen of Canada.
The Victoria Cross is supposed to represent almost super-human feats of bravery on the field of battle, feats that are rarely survived.
