New nuclear generating capacity in Finland will help to deal with the “negative developments” of emissions trading in the Nordic electricity market, according to the speaker of the country’s parliament Paavo Lipponen.
The Swedish nuclear power inspectorate SKI has approved a plan to increase the capacity of unit three of the country’s Oskarshamn nuclear power plant, but operator OKG must await a government decision on nuclear policy before going ahead with the project.
In the forthcoming energy white paper, the government intends to announce that no further nuclear power stations will be built in the UK in the foreseeable future, but states that a later decision might reverse the policy.
