Hanson recreates in a vigorous and concrete style nine landmark "shock" battles between the West and the Rest, in which discipline was often the determining factor.
However, I think the battles chosen were chosen to specifically match the thesis and that a more thorough view of other battles may prove part of the thesis wrong.

Chenggao was the battle the year before, in which Xiang Yu and Liu Bang fought each other to a stalemate (although Xiang was badly weakened by the struggle), and agreed to fix their border at Honggou.
On the other hand, Chinese history were ususally compilled after the fall of that particular dynasty, so on this part it could be less biased than something like Herotodes who is not only a greek but wrote he's account only several decades after the battle.

The Chinese cultural revolution caused the death of 30 million people (source: the current Chinese government), but many died of hunger.
To this day, the Chinese government has not yet disclosed how many people were executed by Mao's red guards during the Cultural Revolution and how many people were killed in Tibet during the Chinese invasion of 1950.
