The nomadic tribes of north China that adopted Chinese customs and ruling style, also used the Chinese writing system in their bureaucracy, and some of them copied the characters to create an own character style writing system, like the kingdoms of Xixia (Hsi-hsia), Khitan and Jurchen.
This kind of character shows that Chinese characters could also be used only with their sound, thus creating a kind of syllable script.
Chinese is written in columns from right to left, according to the natural material of bamboo strips - but already on the oracle bone inscriptions and bronze inscriptions, Chinese is written in columns.

Along with these developments in professional art circles, there was a proliferation of peasant art depicting everyday life in the rural areas on wall murals and in open-air painting exhibitions.
