Colorado authorities later released an audit that was highly critical of the prison, and contract monitors from Hawai'i reported the prison failed to comply with its contract with the state in a number of areas.
Prisoners claim they were assaulted by officers, shot (with live ammo, in at least one case) while fleeing burning buildings or trying to surrender, denied medical treatment, forced to strip in front of female staff and denied showers for up to a week after the incident.
The lawsuit alleges that the prison staff ignored repeated warnings that unrest was escalating among the inmate population, caused in part by the transfer of 198 inmates to the Crowley County Correctional Facility from Washington.

For many years, the Colorado State Library contracted with the Denver Public Library to serve the entire state as the Colorado Resource Center (CRC), a substitute for a central state collection.
Materials were loaned to all Colorado libraries through interlibrary loan, and reference and information services were provided to all Colorado residents in person, by phone, or via electronic mail.
Libraries of all types throughout Colorado continue to honor interlibrary loan requests, and many are helping with reference and information services, too, attempting to compensate for the loss of the CRC.
