Crow - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The true crows are in the genus Corvus; they are large Passerine birds.
Crows in the northwestern US (a blend of Corvus brachyrhynchos and Corvus caurinus) show modest linguistic capabilities and the ability to relay information over great distances, live in complex, hierarchic societies involving hundreds of individuals with various "occupations", and have an intense rivalry with the area's less socially-advanced ravens.
One species, the New Caledonian Crow, has recently been intensively studied because of its ability to manufacture and use its own tools in the day-to-day search for food.

They range in size from the relatively small pigeon-sized jackdaws (Eurasian and Daurian) to the Common Raven of the Palearctic region and Thick-billed Raven of the highlands of Ethiopia.

Special attention should be placed on measuring the composition and abundance of plant species in the forest understory; forest structure, especially age of trees and dispersion of openings within the forest; ages and patch sizes of the lava flows underlying the forest and their effects on plant species composition.
Special attention must be paid to the forest structure and composition where 'Alala choose to spend their time, for example, whether or not open, partially logged 'ohi'a-koa forest is used as much as closed-canopy forest patches in proportion to its occurrence on the McCandless Ranch.
Other environmental stimuli that are necessary for reproduction, e.g., special foods for courtship feeding, perches for copulation, vocalizations, stimuli from adjacent pairs, and external stimuli that inhibit reproduction.

Nat' Academies Press, The Scientific Bases for the Preservation of the Hawaiian Crow (1992)
Although the number of endangered corvid species has remained at two ('Alala and the Marianas Crow, Corvus kubaryi), 10 species (three insular and seven continental) have been added to the more recent compilations and are considered at risk (Table 5.1).
Like the 'Alala, this species existed for several decades at an effective population size of fewer than 20 pairs, and it was the subject of a poorly managed breeding program for nearly 10 years before success was achieved and significant reintroductions were begun (Jones et al., 1981, 1991; Cade and Jones, in press).
The geographic distributions of several endangered species that had been reduced to single, relict populations have been expanded through deliberate releases into suitable habitat either within or outside their historical ranges.

Final List of Bird Species to Which the Migratory Bird Treaty Act Does Not Apply
The MBTRA amends the MBTA by stating that it applies only to migratory bird species that are native to the United States or its territories, and that a native migratory bird is one that is present as a result of natural biological or ecological processes.
This notice identifies those species that are not protected by the MBTA, even though they belong to biological families referred to in treaties that the MBTA implements, as their presence in the United States and its territories is solely the result of intentional or unintentional human-assisted introductions.
We are publishing a final list of the nonnative bird species that have been introduced by humans into the United States or its territories and to which the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA) does not apply.

The most famous members are of the genus Mantella which have converged with Neotropical Dendrobatids in body plan, ecology, aposematic coloration, and in lipophilic skin alkaloids.
Most species are terrestrial although there are also aquatic, arboreal (the genus Boophis resembles Hyline treefrogs), and semi-fossorial.
