This soon led to a series of British television commercials for the Electricity Board which were made in the same style, featuring a closing voice-over by Johnny Morris.
In 2003, a series of Creature Comforts films was made for the British television network ITV by Aardman, with episodes directed by Richard Goleszowski.

In 1983, Aardman produced a series of short films for Channel 4 that featured audio recordings from real world situations such as a local radio DJ that were then matched to an absurd animated scenario.
This same technique was the basis for Creature Comforts.

The charm of this series is most definitely the off-the-cuff interviews that are used to bring the animals to life and the clever matching of the human voices and stylings with those of their animal counterparts.
Highlights of the first six episodes would have to be the Greyhound who struggles to finish a sentence before the gates are opened and he has to race off and the blue cat relaxing on the sofa while subtly poking fun at his slightly stupid dog friend.
There are others but listing them all would take up too much space; the prawns that are afraid of jellyfish, the jelly fish that gets motion sickness, the hamster with no talent for circus work who is afraid of clowns.

Voiced by The Great British Public, Creature Comforts (both the original short and the series) is also something of a landmark in the audio department.
Culled from interviews with ordinary British folk from around the country, the cream of the crop are paired with their own "animal"---a slow-talking old man with a basset hound, for example---for a surreality show unlike any other.
The original Creature Comforts (1990) has long been a favorite of mine, having watched and re-watched it countless times on VHS and the now out-of-print DVD.

There's nothing not to like about Aardman Animations' new Creature Comforts series, belatedly inspired by their Oscar-winning short film and the subsequent spin-off TV ads that turned out to be far more memorable than the product itself ("It's got to be easily turn-off-and-onable").
On this first volume you get six episodes, of which perhaps the funniest is "Working Animals", where we learn that egglaying is "very repetitive" and meet the greyhound who can never quite get his latest bit of portentous self-analysis out before the trap opens.
Mirroring the format of the original Creature Comforts Oscar winning short, where members of the public are interviewed, and then characters are developed and animated to the voices, the DVD is made up of 6 episodes, each focusing on different aspects of everyday life.

And for a matter of moments during the show's debut episode, this ëoddity' really seems like it might make for a nice slice of brain-dead sitcom glee.
Watching Dick York and Elizabeth Montgomery freak out their neighbors and share a handful of in-jokes during each episode is one thing, but after the newness of their unique marriage becomes standard information, the show turns completely limp, leaning on tired gags and uninventive plot devices to drive the series along.
But overall, these 36 episodes are a whole lot of nothing - a showcase for a series that had a kitschy, vampy idea and drove it into the ground.

All you really need to know is that it comes from stop-motion animation wizard Nick Park and his Aardman Studios and began its life as a 1989 short that won Park his first Oscar (in 1990).
That short featured animals speaking documentary-style into a microphone from the confines of a zoo, talking reflectively about the lifestyle behind bars -- the good (three squares a day), the bad (not hot enough, surroundings that cause hay fever) and the ugly (having your freedom taken away is a bitch).
Now, for this BBC America series of nine 30-minute episodes, Park has expanded the concept into a collection of shorts that are airing three per week.
