The Oakland Press: Oakland Life: 'Art in the Stations' a moving tribute
In the years since 1987, the People Mover has had its occasional problems, but one thing they got right from the start is the beautiful, intriguing and challenging public art that went into its stations.
As originally planned, the People Mover stations were to be utilitarian concrete boxes, containing only turnstiles and a few rugged benches.
That's why the Cobo station boasts shiny mosaics of seven full-sized classic cars, why the life-sized bronze man on the Grand Circus stop is reading a local newspaper and why Detroit's own historic Pewabic Pottery created the tiles used in five of the stations.

 Detroit area rock 'n' roll bands/musicians 1966 - 1972
Elsewhere in these listings is one band that took it's name from a New York nightclub so it only seems appropriate to cover a group with the good sense (good taste?) to purloin their name from a well known downtown Detroit eatery of the early sixties.
Flaming Ember always proudly declared themselves a Detroit band, comprised of players living in Detroit (within its city limits, not out in the 'burbs or even some other county) and as their assimilation of Motor City soul styles proved, many folks (of all colors) remain convinced the Flaming Ember were anything but four white guys.
There is also no doubt that these listings overlook many other superb Motor City rock talent and groups of the era which, with your input, will find their way into this later.

 The Washington Monthly
Quite frankly, we've passed the point where reasonable people could come to the conclusion that the current civilian leadership of the military has done a job that is even remotely close to competent.
The next part of the plan was the mistaken belief that most of the people wanted what we where planning to shove on them.
Despite the fact that the people who PUT said troops in harms way are to blame for their fucked-up policies, as a loyal Republican, you're supposed to never mention anything that might harm morale.

The youth stations necessarily had to encompass more styles, as there were not enough of them (stations, not styles), or presumably enough advertising dollars or even AM frequencies to permit the narrow casting we have/enjoy/tolerate today.
