While media reaction to 'Doctor Who' so far has been pretty much on an episode by episode basis, I decided a long time ago that any critical assessment would have to wait until the whole season was out to take in the full effect.
The Doctor is rarely a character who goes or does something purely for leisure let alone to watch history unless it's to make a significant point.
Collectively, the new 'Doctor Who' series has gotten off with a bang with decent media exposure and this time with the BBC behind the push to make sure people watch.

Christopher Eccleston's Doctor is an interesting amalgam of what we've seen before with a distinctly modern edge to him.

While the first episode of the original Doctor Who series, An Unearthly Child, followed teachers Ian and Barbara and could be said to be from their point of view, they really just carry the viewer along on the path to the Doctor.
