List of fictional U.S. Presidents - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Since the office of President of the United States is somewhat hallowed, fiction writers often choose to 'invent' a president in their stories to prevent a real one from being possibly insulted, to avoid having their stories become 'dated' over time, for dramatic license, or to provide literary flexibility.
These "goofs" could be a deliberate policy on the part of the writers, however, to subtly reinforce that the action is not taking place in the "real" U.S., but in a parallel version of it.

Marvel Universe - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Marvel's major heroes (the ones who get involved in most of the important events) are the ones created from 1961 to 1963, during Marvel's "Silver Age": Spider-Man, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Daredevil, Thor, the Hulk, the Fantastic Four, the Silver Surfer and S.H.I.E.L.D.’s director, Nick Fury.
Unlike DC Comics, who uses the idea that interference with time by villains caused reality to reboot a few times, Marvel simply assumes that the stories happen in the space of years instead of decades; this is known as a sliding timescale.
Note that in Marvel Comics, the concept of a continuity is not the same as "dimension" or "universe"; for example, characters like Mephisto and Dormammu hail from alternate dimensions and the Celestials from another universe, but they all nevertheless belong to Earth-616.
