  Sega Dreamcast
The Sega Dreamcast is the most recent Sega console to date even though it is officially dead.
Dreamcast used a proprietary format called GD-ROM for storing games in order to foil software pirates, a strategy that ultimately backfired when the first run of discs had a high rate of defects, and pirates managed to pirate the games anyway (in some cases the pirated games were released before the legitimate versions!).
Microsoft cooperated with Sega hoping to promote its Windows CE for video games, but Windows CE for the Dreamcast showed bad performance and because of that was only used for very few games.

The Top 10 Best / Greatest Video Games of All Time
Games that were actively intended to be on multiple platforms at the time of their original debut are the ones that get the "multiple" status.
Note: In this list Next Gen has made my life difficult by identifying four "series" in their top 10 (#1 is the "Zelda series," #3 is the "Mario series," #4 is the "Civilization series," and #6 is the "Metroid series").
To keep this list in the style of all the others, I have thus tampered with it, and inserted games from each series which I think they would be statistically most likely to have chosen as the "best" game of each franchise.

Sega Dreamcast information - Search.com   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-04)
The Dreamcast was released on November 27, 1998 in Japan, on September 9, 1999 in the United States (the date 9/9/99 featured heavily in US promotion) and on October 14, 1999 in Europe.
On February 24, 2004, Sega released their final Dreamcast game, Puyo Pop Fever, although a small number of third-party games are still being released, such as Trizeal, Rajirugi, and most recently Under Defeat (released in March 2006).
But since the Dreamcast works in CAV mode, occasionally, when there was space to spare on the CD-R, Dreamcast game pirates would fill the disk image on which the game was distributed with empty space at the beginning, so the disk image size would be about 700 MB.

An influential game must establish a paradigm that reforms entire genres or sets a precedent that is so advanced that future game developers are forced to follow it.
When considering games that have been released within the last few years, it is important to separate those that were a novelty or only influenced a small sector of the video games industry from those that truly revolutionized and influenced all games.
There are countless modern games that will undoubtedly make the list a few years from now, but it's impossible to predict if features that we've found innovative in recent years will ever catch on with the mass market.
