 Monarchs
We call this the beginning of the Tudor period in English history and it is often called the beginning of the English Renaissance or Early Modern period (and the end of the Middle Ages).
After the Civil War many prominent English aristocrats were forced to flee England for the Continent, and their lands were seized (like those of the Duke of Newcastle, the husband of Margaret Cavendish, who wrote Blazing World).
Other aspects of English life were altered: in 1642 the Puritans closed the theaters, because they believed theatrical representation was sinful (think of this period as Malvolioâs revenge!), and the theaters remained closed until the Restoration.

Talk:List of English monarchs - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Another reason for including post-1707 monarchs - or perhaps rather another reason for treating GB and the UK as 'successor states' of England and this in turn justifing inclusion of monarchs up to the present date - is that the primary numerals of the monarchs continue from the English list.
I don't see any especial reason not to list the monarchs of Great Britain and the UK here, because, as Tharkun notes, those states are a continuation of the Kingdom of England in a way that they are not a continuation of the Kingdoms of Scotland or Ireland.
There is already a List of monarchs in the British Isles article, and then the separate kingdoms have their own separate articles.

In Finland, the all-European tradition of "translating" foreign Christian names obviously started to dwindle sometime in the end of the 19th century and is now practically dead.
Scandinavian monarchs' names are (almost) always translated: the King of Sweden is "Kaarle Kustaa" (occasionally, "Carl Gustav" is also used).
In regard to Benji Wald's discussion of the placement of stress in nominals such as stone wall (vs. stonewall) or apple pie (vs. apple sauce), the question can be neatly resolved, it seems to me, by recourse to the theory of lexicalization.

The latest volume in the estimable Yale English Monarchs series covers the life of George IV, king from 1820 to 1830.
Son of the long-ruling George III, from whom the American colonies broke away to eventually form a more perfect union, George IV is understood here as having developed weaknesses of character in direct response to his difficult relationship with his father.
This cautious revisionist history of the youth, regency, and reign of one of the most despised English kings tries to show, in the words of a royal retainer, that George IV's ``abilities were far, very far, above mediocrity.'' The future George IV (17621830) and his siblings were raised in virtual isolation.
