  English Vocabulary: Prefixes (EnglishClub.com)
A prefix is placed at the beginning of a word to modify or change its meaning.
This is a list of the most common prefixes in English, together with their basic meaning and some examples.
But be very careful, because often what appears to be a prefix is not a prefix at all.

ISO - International Organization for Standardization
When first accessing the listing, the display options are set according to whether the user accessed via links to the ISO catalogue (published standards) or via the ISO technical programme (standards under development).
The prefix is followed by a serial number which may include a part number, separated by a hyphen from the main number.
The listing is structured in technical committee (TC) order beginning with JTC 1, the Joint ISO/IEC Technical Committee on Information Technology, followed by all ISO/TCs in numerical order and ending with the list of other ISO organs or international organizations which are responsible for the maintenance and/or development of certain ISO standards or guides.

 Mailing Lists and Forums
While everyone's input is always welcome, the top-level lists are quite high-volume, and putting a little effort into messages you post will mean the difference between getting a response or getting ignored.
As several of the lists are high volume, a few conventions are in use to aid sorting and filtering.
It is also common for list subscribers to add some kind of topical label to the subject field, like [Stable3.1 Release], to track different, but related, threads.

 Metric Prefixes
A metric prefix is a modifier on the root word and it tells us the unit of measure.
Notice that when the two prefixes are from the same side (two negatives or two positives), the answer is the absolute difference between the two.
If the two prefixes cross over (as in one positive and one negative), then it is the absolute sum.

 The 12dicts Word Lists
The other list, the 2of12 list, is more inclusive in that it includes words listed in as few as two of the source dictionaries, but less inclusive in that it excludes items of various sorts, including multiword phrases, proper names and abbreviations.
Unlike the 6of12 and 2of12 lists, this list is not based exclusively on the contents of my 12 source dictionaries, and for this reason it has, I feel, less authority than the other classic 12dicts lists.
Because these two lists have the same rules for the kinds of words included, one could easily combine the two to produce a slightly larger list including a number of words whose omission from 6of12 is rather surprising.

Nearly all of the S I prefixes are multiples (kilo to yotta) or sub-multiples (milli to yocto) of 1000.

 Affix Information
An affix is a morpheme that is attached to a base morpheme such as a root or to a stem, to form a word.
Affixes may be derivational, like English -ness and pre-, or inflectional, like English plural -s and past tense -ed.
English tmeses, as in this example, are by some considered infixes.

An affix can be a prefix (attached before another morpheme), a suffix (attached after another morpheme), an infix (inserted within another morpheme), a circumfix (attached before and after another morpheme), or a suprafix (attached suprasegmentally to another morpheme).
English infixes only exist in exclamatory constructions like the given example.
English circumfixes do not exist other than en- -en, which is not productive now.
