Topic: List of Eskrima systems

Related Topics

 Eskrima
Most Eskrima systems include fighting with a variety of weapons, striking with hands and feet (suntukan, sikaran, panadiyakan/panadyakan), grappling and throwing (dumog), biting and whatever skills needed to complete a warrior's training in the old days of tribal warfare.
This is reasonable because most systems have unified their teaching so that the empty-hand techniques are learned through the same exercises as the weapon techniques, making muscle memory an important aspect of the teaching.
San Miguel Eskrima - As one of the founders (together with the famous Doring and Ensong Saavedra) of the Labangon Fencing Club in 1920 and later the Doce Pares Club in 1932, Filemon "Momoy" Cañete created the blade based San Miguel Eskrima as his personal expression of the Doce Pares art and methodology.

Talk:List of Eskrima systems - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There really are a zillion systems; everyone from the Philippines who can swing a stick makes up their own system.
But I think a lot of these are just some student in their first month who doesn't know a sumbrada is just a kind of exercise, not a fighting system.
Hence the long boring list of unlinked systems.

 UK Martial Arts Online
Martial arts, also known as fighting systems, are bodies of codified practices or traditions of unarmed and armed combat, usually without the use of guns and other modern weapons.
It is nevertheless valuable to distinguish between fighting systems intended for soldiers in battle (even without modern technology) and fighting systems intended for sport or for civilian self-defense.
What differentiates the martial arts from mere unarmed brawling are the organization of their techniques into a coherent system and the codification of effective teaching methods.

Sikal - which is a hybrid of elements from various systems of FMA and of Silat, so not strictly an FMA - and Doce Pares Eskrima/Eskrido (from GM Cacoy Canete).
All three system's GM's (the late R.Presas, M. Innay, and A. Cabales) have had either themselves or some of their senior instructors teaching programs in our schools over the years (also D. Inosanto) and it was mandatory for all the senior BB's to train in these.
Of this I am truly grateful because this has taken me to new levels and connected the dots for me in many ways in my own growth as a MA that may not have occured otherwise.
