Most of the humor is derived from Frasier's search for romance; social class conflict, particularly with his blue-collar ex-cop father; sibling rivalry; the pomposity of Frasier as a minor celebrity, intellectual and patron of the local Seattle arts scene; and misunderstandings between the characters.
Frasier perhaps owes its biggest debt to the comedies of Shakespeare, whose misheard eavesdroppings, character misrepresentations, punning, and exquisite timing can be obviously seen in every aspect of the show.

When Frasier was shown on TV I was always amused but never an avid fan but I've been converted by the wit and delivery of the comedy.
Watching each episode has allowed me to notice subtle character quirks, proving despite it's name I don't feel that Frasier is the lead, he's comic brillance is matched if not surpassed by the other members of the cast, particularly David Hyde Pierce (Niles) and John Mahoney (Martin).
In series one we see the introduction of each character and during the episodes, the growth of each character within themselves and with each other, their strengths and weaknesses become apparent as they encounter many a hilarious situation.

Frasier has been a sharper, wittier and often more intelligent alternative to the almost consistently funny Friends for years and of course it began a year before the Central Perk six in 1993.
In my opinion Frasier has been the best sitcom of all time, the characters all work so well together, it is disappointing to see it slide down the ratings during its final series and it will be sad to see it end.
Frasier is a true classic, im going to have to re-watch season one on DVD in the lead up to the finale at the end of June.

Frasier (Kelsey Grammer) can be infuriating, as in "The Focus Group," in which he is obsessed with knowing why a lone focus group participant (guest star Tony Shalhoub) doesn't like him.
"Frasier - The Complete Third Season" is a half-hour comedy series set in Seattle, which chronicles the lives of an eloquently pompous radio show host, Dr. Frasier Crane, (Kelsey Grammer), his competitive, high-brow brother Niles (David Hyde Pierce), their crotchety father Martin (John Mahoney) and Martin's semi-psychic, live-in home-care provider, Daphne (Jane Leeves).
Frasier also has a close encounter with Diane Chambers (Shelley Long), who left him at the altar in "Cheers." (The episode, "The Show Where Diane Comes Back," features a classic "Cheers" spoof.) The shows frequently shun cheap laughs to build to a riotous conclusion.
