Books for vehicles, books for superheroes, books on playing in the land of the Aztecs, the list goes on.
The template books (GURPS Warriors, GURPS Wizards) attempt to address this, and tend to succeed in my opinion, but throwing a whole extra book into the mix is not an argument in favor of the game's accessibility.
GURPS is a good system (yeah, there're flaws, but what system doesn't have flws?), and the sourcebooks (especially the historical ones) are all well-written, each a treasure trove of ideas for most any game/campaign.

While I'm no longer writing GURPS books professionally (I do my own thing these days!), I managed to slip in a few doozies when I was (you'll also find me lurking in the credits as a contributor to several that I wasn't a primary author on).
GURPS Black Ops is the creation of Jeff Koke, with embellishments and lots of additional text by Yours Truly (I did chapter 4 on); I'm proud to have been Jeff's coauthor.
The In Nomine to GURPS Conversions were contracted, written, and approved as an appendix in the In Nomine core book, but at the last minute they were cut for space.

Undead is another excellent book that I haven't had much use for.
As a matter of fact, the magic system in GURPS Spirits is superior to the standard one, although is not very adequate to high fantasy, it would do great in a low or dark fantasy campaign.

They are wonderful for mining of ideas and I have a huge list of GURPS books that I would still like to buy.
GURPS already has all of that covered, all we need is a world book and a mutant manual.
There is alot of potential for such a book and it could easily crossover with GURPS fantasy, GURPS arabian nights, and a ton of others.

GURPS Illuminati would probably be on my list of the top 5 RPG books ever.
I love GURPS, and for a long time in the Dark Ages I played it probably on a par with Hero (I especially liked it for non-super powered things, and I used GURPS Wild Cards quite a bit).
Now its not so clear cut, GURPS has some great books and many people buy them that don't even play GURPS, so far HERO has been very impressive and if they keep up the quality they have shown so far they will definately be competing for the same markets.

GURPS system - GURPS (in case you were wondering) is short for Generic Universal RolePlaying System - has a reputation for being rather rule heavy, and hence many roleplayers dislike it.
There is also a very useful list of tables at the end of the book.
The GURPS adaptation is only one of a number, and have issued quite a number of worldbooks already, with more coming out all the time.

The society and biology of the goblins (which are seamlessly tied together) are fascinating as well as funny--these may vaguely resemble the standard fantasy RPG goblins, but they stand out as one of the most unique races to be developed for any setting, fantasy or science fiction.
And it's a game-within-a-game, as the whole point of goblin existence is to climb socially (due to their biology, virtually all goblins start in the gutter, no matter who their parents were), so there are very full setting-specific rules for social climbing that can be applied to other settings.

GURPS has a lot of good premade material, like a premade tech level system and system of psionic powers.
With GURPS Vehicles you can't build a TL7/8 (our Technology Level) Fighter that has the armor of a tank, the firepower of a Fighter and the speed of a missile.
GURPS doesn't need a seperate psionics book, most of the those rules and powers appear in the basic book.

I consider this an essential book for any GURPS campaign on psi - while the section in the basic set (third edition) is fairly good, it is incomplete at best when used for a settign ABOUT psionics, although for a campaign with psi tacked on, just for a little spice, the basic set could suffice.

Now, I've already got a list of GURPS books I need to get - but that still leaves me with credit for some more shiny new rpg books.
Also, this book is 500 pages for $40.00 and it is a setting, monster manual, and players guide all in one.
It's a generic book with no real predefined genre, although supers is the most common, followed by fantasy then sci-fi.
