With the short exception of Charles VII Albert of Bavaria, Austrian Habsburgs held the position of German Emperor beginning in 1438 with Albert II of Habsburg until the end of the Holy Roman Empire.
The official language, German, is spoken by almost all residents of the country.
All of the dialects in the country, however, belong to Austro-Bavarian groups of German dialects, with the exception of the dialect spoken in its west-most Bundesland, Vorarlberg, which belongs to the group of Alemannic dialects.

Whether through cleverness or cowardice, he spurned East German citizenship for an Austrian passport to guarantee his access to the west, and by the time of his death in 1956 Brecht himself seemed uncertain of the social philosophy to which he had devoted so much of his time and energy.
My German is poor, but if Michael Hamburger's translation is accurate enough, the tone of that last line sticks in the craw, as if Brecht were trying to convince himself as much as his listener of the sentiment of the penultimate line.
Indeed, the significance of his achievement seems to grow now that it's moving clear of the theoretical and interpretive impediments that academics and critics have placed in front of it; his status as a major playwright of the modern world is growing more evident.

The article is little more of a list of reasons why you should buy this set (and you should, even at the C-note it will require at your local retail store), but they're very good reasons.
The two volumes of novels, one volume of drama and one volume of poems, short fiction and criticism will be edited by Paul Auster and utilize texts revised and compiled by C.J. Ackerley and S.E. Gontarski, correcting various typographical errors that have come down to us in all the previous Grove editions to date.
Never entirely comfortable in the world (we have here again Beckett's unease in large groups and public situations), he nonetheless found a social home in that most communitarian of art forms, the theater, and the reader senses once again Beckett's profound distrust of academics and love of other artists, actors and actresses.
