The district?s cemeteries are also notable for containing the final resting places of many people prominent in the early history of Michigan and in the political, religious, business and cultural history of the state and city of Detroit.
The district also has the distinction of being part of an early effort at urban renewal that actually succeeded; it was the outcome of a city plan to counter the flight of middle and upper-income families to the suburbs.
The development of the district was directly related to Detroit?s industrial boom at the turn of the century, which caused the boundaries of the city to push outward.

 Carpathian German History
For Carpathian Germans, the CSR minority laws had been an improvement compared to the harsher Magyar rule of the last decades before World War I. And as few Carpathian Germans were large landowners (these were Magyars) or owners of factories (Jews), the discriminatory decrees of the Czech government hurt them less.
Yet, considering the weird attitude many younger Germans have to their people, to depend to such an extent on the goodwill of a city that is not populated mainly by descendants of Germans from the East can be dangerous.
Remaining Carpathian Germans have already received over 20% of their property confiscated in 1946, (mainly derelict fields in isolated villages, and even there without the buildings, but still...) while the Czechs have returned nothing to the few thousand Germans survivors in Bohemia and Moravia, using the Benes-decrees as legal basis to deny elementary justice.
