 The Governors of Mississippi
Although students usually are aware of the current governor and perhaps can name others who have served in the position, rarely is there enough time in the classroom to permit them a more personal glimpse into the lives of those who have served in the state’s highest elected position.
Rather than examining all the governors, students can collect information on certain categories such as those who served during a particular period of time: antebellum governors, governors who served between the world wars, governors of the depression, 19th century governors, governors of the 1960s.
Students may wish to compile a list of unique characteristics: governor who served the shortest term, first governor to be re-elected to consecutive terms in the 20th century, etc.

National Review: The Governors List: What "too much" success has done - President Bush seems eager to shift power from ...
Roughly 61 percent of Americans live in states with a Republican governor, and these governors have been trailblazers on policy issues ranging from welfare reform and school choice to tort reform and the environment.
Bush is also attracted to the governors for political reasons: Their state electoral machines were crucial to his victory in 2000.
Unlike the GOP congressional leaders, whose rough-edged partisanship makes Bush visibly squeamish, the governors are more naturally aligned with "compassionate conservatism." For years, political analysts and reporters-along with liberal-leaning country-club Republicans-have been applauding the governors for a shrewd governing philosophy that combines cultural moderation and fiscal conservatism.
