In politics, Governor of Texas is the title given to the chief executive of the state of Texas.
The Governor does have one key power that the Texas Legislature does not have--the Governor can call the Legislature into special session for 30 days, as many times as s/he desires (the Legislature cannot call itself into session).

Texas has a large number of Spanish speaking people some of whom have recently immigrated from Mexico, Central America, and South America but includes others, known as Tejanos[?], whose ancestors have lived in Texas since before independence from Mexico.

In a letter to Congress, the governors called the change "a dramatic expansion of federal authority during natural disasters that could cause confusion in the command-and-control of the National Guard and interfere with states' ability to respond to natural disasters within their borders."
"Governors need to be focused on assisting their citizens during an emergency instead of looking over their shoulders to see if the federal government is going to step in," Quam said.

Whereas Texas voters sent 17 Democrats and 15 Republicans to Washington in 2002 using federal court-drawn districts, in the 2004 elections the count was 21 Republicans and 11 Democrats under the Legislature's remap.

The Compact is an agreement among the States of Texas (the host state), Maine, and Vermont, and was entered into in fulfillment of the States' responsibility under the Low-Level Radioactive Waste Policy Act (P.L. as amended) to develop facilities for the disposal of low-level radioactive waste generated within their borders.
The Compact specifies that the State of Texas will host the disposal facility and the Compact provides that no low-level radioactive waste may be exported from or imported to the regional facility except with the approval of the governing commission of the Compact.
The governors of Texas, Maine, and Vermont had opposed any amendments to the compact because a revised compact would have required the member states to go through a lengthy re-ratification process.

This story about Texas and a Civil War Campaign all started with a plan conceived in the minds of a group of New England businessmen some two decades before the Civil War and that didn't even take place in Texas.
However, when these northerners realized that war was inevitable and that Texas was siding with the Confederate States, rather than give up their lucrative idea, they considered the war to be in their favor.
