		We have posted this list as a place to start, not necessarily as a place to end; since many of us did not have the benefit of being educated with the Great Books in our own childhoods and education.
		Great Books lists are not meant to be exclusive of any tradition or culture, but rather form a foundation of knowledge on which to stand.
		The reading of the great books culminates a good classical education as it requires all the skills that classical education aims to develop in a child.

	LIST OF GREAT BOOKS PROGRAMS
		Great movements and ideas of history, literature, fine arts, philosophy, and theology are integrated under the rubrics of "Western Civilization," "Form and Meaning," "Literature," and "Christian Perspective." Literature constitutes 6 credits of great books readings, while Western Civilization (6 credits) uses a textbook combined with readings from great books.
		An "Introduction to Great Books" course is required of all students for the minor, after which they select their other courses from an approved list drawn from the departments of Classics, English, foreign languages, History, Philosophy, Political Science, and Psychology.
		Besides reading extensively from the great books (many of them in their entirety), students are exposed to classics in the arts and to great scientific experiments.

	The Great Books Movement
		Through their books, the thought of the authors of the classics continually influences the living, in each generation right up to our day, to the extent they are read and discussed.
		A great books program for adults and the Great Books Foundation were begun in Chicago, both still actively promoting the great books approach to education.
		Great books discussion groups for adults continue in many cities, and Nina Houghton at the Aspen Institute puts on "Adler Reunion seminars" every year, assisted by Charlene Costello, while Max Weismann at the Center for the Study of the Great Ideas conducts on-line discussion groups on the Great Ideas.

		Mortimer Adler, one of the original founders of the Great Books Foundation and one of the original editors of the Great Books selection as published by Encyclopaedia Britannica, claims that the first Great Books course was developed by John Erskine at Columbia in 1920, the year my father was born.

	Classical Christian Education Support Loop: 100 Great Books List
		These books were originally written, for the most part, to be understood by the intelligent layperson of the day, after all.

	Truly Great Books List
		Although many people consider many books to be well written, I have strong personal opinions on certain books that belong on this list of truly great books, and on certain books that do not belong on this list.
		A great book, in my opinion, need not challenge you to figure out what it means, although it may do just that.
